How to organize a Chronological Table：Nagoya Sewerage Science Center / 年表の整理のしかた：名古屋下水道科学館

Organizing a chronological table is never easy.  One has to compromise the amount and level of information, limited graphic size, size of letters and pictures etc.  In this science center, they divided in four different types of information and laid from up to down, major sewerage treatment method in each era from Edo (1868) to Current (2000), Historical mile stones in City of Nagoya, sewerage anecdotes, and History of City’s Sewerage System.  

The unique idea is the back lit oval graphic panels that provides the brief information about major sewerage treatment method from Edo to Present.  By the help of the cartoon graphics, even those short texts are still sufficient enough.

年表を整理するのは大変難しい事です。情報の質や量、グラフィックサイズの規制、文字や写真の大きさなど、様々な事との妥協の連続です。この科学館では情報を「江戸期から今までの下水処理にしかたについて」、「名古屋市の出来事」「下水のまめ知識」、「名古屋市の下水の歴史」の４種類に分け、上から下に積層して見せています。

特徴的なのは、江戸期からの下水のしかたについて説明している楕円の内照パネルです。漫画風イラストを使っているので、内容を伝えるのに簡単な説明文だけで充分です。
