Traditional but modern exhbit style: Sou Fujimoto FUTURE OF THE FUTURE /

Lower Floor
When exhibiting the artifacts on the museum/gallery floor, treat every object equally and line up everything side by side is the most traditional exhibition style since the early museum called ‘Wunderkammer (wonder room)’ in 15-18 century in Europe.

In this small exhibit for the architecture models by the Japanese architect, Sou Fujimoto, all models are sit on a equal high and spaced display tables covers 2 floors that followed the traditional exhibit technique. Still, the visually it made very modern looking exhibit space, nice.

Open air exhibit space
The remarkable part is, they displayed outside, open deck balcony space too!

The high and spacing were just right to enjoy inspecting the small detail of the models.

Fun public furniture: Kanazawa Loop Bus /

This fun looking bench is installed in the RL4- Moriyama 1-chome bus stop in the old neighborhood in Kanazawa city.
Colourful spins and glass marbles are casted in the thick acrylic slab as the bench top for this bus stop.

You may think it is way too pop and fancy for the public bench which only  needed the utility function.  However, when you visit this city which has rich cultural history, you will find this whole place is filled with high standard designed/crafted objects, food, shops, buildings, merchandising, graphics and realize how much attention people in Kanazawa are paying to the details….amazing!

The traditional teaching method still going strong : McGill University /

I had a chance to visit McGill University, School of Urban Planning last summer.
The school itself was established in 1821, the oldest University in Canada.  I walk through the building where School of Urban Planning located.  Unfortunately it had been a summer break and didn’t see any student’s activities.  However, one thing caught my eyes was there studio.  The scene was the old traditional drafting tables along with worktables that scattered half build building models on top were laid in the attic.

What’s a beautiful view!  I’ve never seen the design school that fit perfectly the image of European art & craft era design studio.
Just amazing!
