Quite frankly, I was surprised to see the style of the figures installed in the exhibit at Cité du Train, Mulhouse.  Usually, any other museums no matter which country you go, those figures are either monotone, no personality or full coloured more realistic figure even with facial feature.

On the other hand, their figures are more like artist work, very strong unique style to it, something similar to the infamous Japanese “Yuru-Chara”, anime-style cartoon mascot.

はっきり言って、ミュールーズのシテ・デュ・トランの展示に使われている人形を見た時はビックリしました。どこの国の博物館に行っても、通常それらの人形はモノトーンだったり、個性が無い表現だったり、あるいは逆にフルカラーで顔の表情まで作った写実的なものだったりします。

しかし、この博物館の人形は作家が作った作品のように実に個性的な仕上がりで、もう「ゆるキャラ」の領域に達してます。

This museum is quite unique in number of the ways. 

Extreme dark exhibit space, the full scale mannequins installed for the scenery exhibit is uniquely designed, and striking set up for the train vehicles on the scenery exhibit.  I will report these issues in later day.

This time, I would introduce their floor signs for start.  Because of the dark exhibit space, the signs must be easy to find in a dark environment.

The directional white arrow signs on the paved floor are everywhere to 

make visitor kept on truck, the exhibit route.

Also, self-luminous short text sign was installed on the floor too.

この博物館はいろんな意味でとてもユニークな施設です。

極端に暗い展示室、情景再現展示に使われている実物大人形のデザイン、実物車両の展示の仕方など、後日、おいおい紹介して行きたいと思います。

今回はまず、床面のサインについて紹介します。

展示空間は暗いので、サイン類はその暗い環境下で見つけやすくなければなりません。行き先を示す矢印サインは舗装面に白で描かれ、道順からはぐれないようそこら中の床に描かれています。

また、内照式の文字サインも床に設置されています。

This museum floor is a big open space with lots of long and tall artifact, locomotives and rolling Stocks, are displayed that block the view when you are middle of them.

Probably that’s why they place the graphic information signs on the floor surface in the Great Hall, one of their exhibit spaces.

ここの展示室は大空間の中に、背が高く長い資料つまり機関車や客車が並んでいるので、車両の間にいると視界が遮られてしまいます。

多分その為だと思いますが、グレートホール展示室では床に案内サインを付けてありました。

This is the Exhibit we could not be realized in Japan in number of reasons, security was the most concern.  The monitors on the counter are showing the train operations.  They installed the real operation monitors used in the operation room and showing live operations as a part of the museum exhibit.  This monitors are installed the room that locates a corner of the building with a huge window facing the train truck in front of the visitors, one could visually confirm the passing train.

Also, the exhibit space is adjacent to the balcony where the visitor could walk out to look the trains coming and going from York station near by.

It is an excellent exhibit showing the abstract concept as a train operation system with the real train running.

この展示は、セキュリティーの問題で日本では実現できなかった展示です。カウンター上のモニターには鉄道運行の状況が映されています。実際に管制室で使われている監視モニターでの生の鉄道運行を、展示の一環として設置しています。

この展示は博物館の角地に置かれ、目の前の窓の外を走る列車の運行を見る事が出来ます。

また、この展示室はバルコニーに繋がっており、外に出ると隣接するヨーク駅に出入りする列車が見られます。

鉄道運行システムという抽象的な概念を実際の鉄道の走行と一緒に見せる事を実現した、素晴らしい展示と言えます。

Augmented Reality、AR : Electrical Power Histric Museum / 拡張現実（AR）：電気の資料館

Electrical Power Historic Museum is a TEPCO’s, Tokyo Electricity Power Company, facility and currently closed for time being due to the nuclear power station’s accident caused by Great East Japan Earthquake.

One of the exhibit they installed was using an Augmented Reality、AR technology to show the function of the vertical turbine used for hydro generator.

There is a QR code displayed beside the turbine and when visitor capture the QR code image by using provided smart phone, application is pre-installed, the CG movie is automatically starts that shows the water flow and the turbine’s movement.

電気の資料館は東京電力の施設なので、東日本大震災以降閉館となっている。

水力発電の縦型タービンの動きを解説するのに拡張現実（AR）を使っていた展示があったので取り上げてみた。

まずQRコードがタービンの横に置かれ、支給されたアプリをインストールしてあるスマホをかざしてQRコードを認識させると、自動的にCG映像が始まり水の流れとタービンの動きを見せてくれる。

Notice the plexiglass case over head.  Combine with lighting fixture that able to see  underneath of the models.
Never seen the case like this, good idea.

This exhibit space called “Collector's Attic” is a part of the “Small Wonders: The Magic of Toy Trains.”  exhibit which displaying the collection of Mr. Thomas W. Softon, prominent San Diego banker.

As it named, there are over 1,000 toy trains on display in FUN way, placing above your head and allow you to see the bottom side of the toy train as it shows in this picture, for instance.

この展示スペースは「コレクターの屋根裏部屋」と名付けられ、サンディエゴ市の元銀行家、トーマスWソフトン氏のコレクションを展示している「小さな驚き：トイトレインのマジック」展示の一部です。

名前の通り1,000以上のおもちゃの鉄道車両が、例えばこの写真のように車両の下が見える様に並べてたりして楽しく見られる様に展示されています。

The aid system for people in special needs / 体の不自由な方向けの支援システム

Few more aid system in public transportation for people in special needs. 

The zigzag shaped handrail, which prevent slipping the hand while holding thus easer to hold than standard strait handrail. 

Also, the corner of the step where steps join the wall has highlighted with red and yellow colour bar for better recognition for people in amblyopia or cataract. 

The dotted yellow floor tile and brail on the handrail are installed both start and end of the stair to indicate where stair start for people with visual impairment.

公共交通機関での身障者対応についての追加。波形の手すりは握った時に滑りにくいので、通常の直線式の手すりより握り易い。また、階段の両端の壁との境界には、赤と黄色の色が付けられ、弱視や白内障の方に階段の端が解り易いように配慮されている。

階段の起点と終点には展示誘導ブロックが床に敷かれ、手すりの点字とともに階段が有る事を視覚障害のある方に示している。
