Fed up with the useless directional signs? : Tokyo Metro Otemach / 役に立たない行き先サイン、我慢出来ないですか？：東京メトロ 大手町

Otemachi metro station connects 5 railroad lines that mostly the underground  lines that overlapped with intricately multilayered  like the ant nest.  Therefore, the visibility of the directional signs becomes very important for the people using this station.  Usually, directional allow is designed with hard line, matched with letters and other icons on the graphics...Problems? Doesn't stands out.

However, at Otemach station, the directional allow is big blush stroke line which strongly stands out from other graphic design code…Hard to miss!

大手町のメトロの駅は５つの路線が繋がり、ほとんどが地下鉄なので蟻の巣のように何層にも重なった複雑な接続となっています。そのため、駅利用に不慣れなお客さん達には、行き先サインが大変重要なってきます。行き先を示す矢印の形は、その他のデザインにあわせた形状とするのが通常ですが、問題はあまり目立たない事です。

しかし大手町駅では、筆で書いたような大きくて勢いのある矢印なので、奇麗にまとめられた他のグラフィックデザインの中でひときわ目につきます。

これなら見逃しません！

"Mirai eno Tobira", or Door for the Future

This bookshelf like wall object has a panel informing the name of the artwork as “Mirai eno Tobira” or Door for the Future in English.  However, in some reason there is no artist name is found on that panel.  I searched on the internet expecting to find out the name of the person, group or organization, but ended up no luck, none.

It is a unique piece of art but anonymous one.

この本棚の形をした壁面オブジェには作品名を記したパネルがありましたが、どうゆう訳か作者の名前がありません。ネットでも探してみましたが、個人名もグループ名、あるいは団体名としても公表されていませんでした。

不思議です。

Exhibit in the public transportation: Otemachi / 公共交通機関での展示：大手町

This bronze head, Greece god Mercury, was used to be installed on the top of the hand rail of the ground level entrance in Ginza metro station since 1951 and became the symbol of the Subway.  In 1964, they renovated the Ginza station and moved this bronze head to current location, underground pass way.

There were number of same sculpture on several subway entrances in major stations and I believe some are still there.

このブロンズの首像は1951年から地下鉄銀座駅の地上の手すり部分に地下鉄のシンボルとして取り付けられていたギリシャの神マーキュリーです。1964年に行われた駅の改修に伴い、現在の地下通路に移動されました。

かつては地下鉄の主要駅の入り口には同じ首像が取り付けられていました。今でも残っている所はあると思います。

Almost Museum : Cheepa’s Café / ほとんど博物館：Cheepa’s Café

You can say Cheepa’s Café in Ginza has almost museum like exhibit that displaying their toy collections.  Mainly Japanese Manga related charactors, Gundam, One Peace, Ultra Man, Kamen Rider etc.

The café is two stories, order counter locate in the ground floor and plenty of tables and display walls are waiting for you in both floors.  All walls surfaces were used as the display shelves and some figures are displayed under the special made grass table too.

If you are big fun on the Japanese Manga, you may want take a break at this café.

銀座にあるチーパーズカフェは、コレクションをまるで博物館並に見せています。ガンダム、ワンピース、ウルトラマン、仮面ライダーなど、日本のマンガアニメのキャラクターを中心に展示されています。

カフェは２階建てになっていて、オーダカウンターは一階にあって、卓と展示壁面は上下階にたっぷりと用意されています。

全ての壁面は展示ケースになっていて、また、特注のガラストップの下に小さなフィギュアーを展示しているターブルも配置されています。

アニメが大好き方なら、ここでゆっくりするのも悪くはないかもしれません。
