Bike rack in Montreal / モントリオールの自転車止め

In the city of Montreal, Quebec, the bicycle rack in the city is actually a part of the parking mater for cars. The stem of the parking mater has a thick metal ring welded horizontally and can be locked the bike cable through it. Other type I found was the leaf shape metal object bolted on the sidewalk.

ケベック州モントリオール市の自転車止めは、自動車のパーキングメーターと一体になっています。パーキングメーターの軸パイプに金属製の太い輪が水平に溶接されていて、自転車に鍵をかけておく事が出来ます。他の種類で目についたものは、オブジェ風の葉っぱの形をした自転車止めが歩道に固定されていました。

Story teller: Glenbow Museum / 語り部：グレンボー博物館

They created a canvas tent on the diorama stage, which become a screen for the looped interpretive story telling shadow play. Unlike books and movies, museum exhibit is always has to deal with the “object” and “space” in same time. Thus, combining the projected images on the actual objects is always effective and potentially one of the greatest solutions to inform the complex knowledge that museum wants to tell.

ジオラマ展示のステージ上に張られたテントがスクリーンとなって、影絵の語り部が解説をする映像を映し出します。本や映画と異なり、博靴館の展示は「モノ」と「空間」をどう使いこなすかが頭をいためる所です。そのため、実際の立体物に映像を投影する手法は効果的です。ひょっとすると、博物館が伝えたいと願っている複雑な情報を提供するのに、最もふさわしい手法の一つかもしれません。

Commercial building with theme: COREDO Muromachi / テーマ性のある商業ビル：COREDO室町

B1: Granite wall

This popular small commercial building in downtown Tokyo houses attractive shops and restaurants brigs many people especially weekends.

The unique points I would like to mention on this building are the themed interior in each floor. I don’t know my way of understanding the ‘Theme’ is as same as the designers. However, it is rather obvious to assume these themes are so obvious.

B1: Granite wall detail

The theme of the basement B1 is ‘Stone’ and used Granite as material, the main floor 1F is ‘Earth’ used soil textured ceramic tiles, 2F is ‘Wood’ used thin sliced wood, 3F is ‘Water’ used the reflection of the water drop shadow and 4F is ‘Sun’ used the lights which looks like sunshine filtering through foliage.

If you have chance to visit Tokyo, I recommend checking this place.

1F: Ceramic tile wall

東京の都心にあるこの人気の商業ビルは、お店やレストランが入っていて、週末は特にお客さんで一杯になります。この建物で特記すべき事は各階ごとにテーマを持った内装が為されている事です。私の理解している「テーマ」がデザイナーの考えているものと一緒かどうかはわかりませんが、何れにしてもテーマ性を持たせている事は明白なので大枠では合っていると思います。
