An Exhibit in the public place: Shibuya 1: 公共空間での展示：渋谷 １

This huge mural was created by a charisma artist, Taro Okamoto (1911-1996).

This mural, Myth of Tomorrow, was painted in 1969 based on the incident that a Japanese tuna fishing boat called Daigo Fukuryu Maru was exposed to and contaminated by nuclear fallout at the Bikini Atoll on 1954.

He painted this piece in Mexico for the new hotel lobby under construction but later the hotel project was canceled because of financial shortage and the mural was abandoned on site for long time.  Nobody knew where about of the mural since then.  In 2003, the damaged mural was fund in a construction stockyard in outside of Mexico City, rescue project had been set up, brought back to Japan for repair and display.

This mural is regarded as one of his masterpiece.

この巨大な壁画は岡本太郎（1911−1996）の作品です。「明日の神話」と題されたこの壁画は、1954年に起きたビキニ環礁での第五福竜丸の放射能被爆事件をベースに1969年に制作されました。この作品はメキシコにある建築中の新しいホテルの為に描かれましたが、ホテルは資金繰りが悪くなりホテルの会館に至らず、壁画はその現場にそのままにされて以来、行方がわからなくなっていました。

2003年にメキシコシティー郊外の資材置き場で傷ついて発見され、その後救済プロジェクトが立ち上がり、日本で修復されて展示される事になったのです。

この壁画は岡本太郎の代表作となっています。

Historic Site-Tamagawa Jyosui : Mitaka /歴史的史跡：玉川上水

Behind the left side trees is the historic water way

The Tamagawa Jyosui is a water supply man made river that developed in 1653, the Edo era.

To cope with shortage of the clean water supply in Edo City, the Shogun government ordered developing a 43 Km long water way.　It’s not as impressive as the famous Roman waterway; still, if you study the history of infrastructure in Edo, Tamagawa Jyosui is always the top of the list.

The part of this historic water way is still remains and an interpretive panel is installed beside the water.

玉川上水は江戸時代1653年に開削されました。江戸の街ではきれいな水が不足していたので、幕府が43キロにわたる上水路の開削命じました。ローマ時代の水道に比べると見劣りするかもしれませんが、江戸時代の都市計画を学ぶ時には必ずはじめに出て来る程大切なものです。

玉川上水の一部はまだ保存されていて、説明パネルが設置されています。

There is a Chronological Table showing the history of Ace Corporation at World Bags and Luggage Museum.

The table and related exhibits are divided horizontally, corporate and social matters on the main view height, the product related information under that and actual sample products are the bottom, placed on the podiums set on the floor.

年表は高さによって内容が整理されています。一番見易い高さには会社や社会で重要な事柄を、その下の高さには商品に関する事柄を、そして床に置いた展示台には実物の製品を設置する事としています。

Local promotion with Google map: Shibuya / グーグルを使った地域プロモーション：渋谷

A shopping district’s shop and restaurant owners organization in Shibuya started to promote their shopping street with a help from Google map.

Each shop provides their information and the net user could find the shop location and short descriptions with a visual image near where the person is in Shibuya.  By searching with keywords like type of business or shop names, they can access those information on the street.

渋谷の商店街組合がグーグルマップを使った商店街のプロモーションをしていました。

お店の情報を提供すると、グーグルマップを使っている人が、渋谷の路上でお店の種類や名前を検索すると、地図上に近くにあるお店の場所と情報が掲示されます。

Interpretive Panel on Site 2 :Obata Ryokuchi Park / サイトでの解説パネル2

They have installed all kinds of panels in this park, some are official permanent looking and others are hand made casual temporary types.

They are put up by different organizing groups, the city, volunteer groups and Philanthropy organization like Lion’s Club.  The panels are introducing  all sorts of things, the eco system, name of the trees, event schedule, and safety notice or pointing the habitat of the firefly.

By looking the variety of the graphic panels, you will get the idea how well this park is loved by many communities.

この公園には正式なものから手作りの簡易なものまで、実に沢山のパネルが掲示されています。それらのパネルは、市やボランティア団体、ライオンズクラブのような慈善団体など、多くの組織や団体によって設置されたものです。

パネルでは生態系や樹木の名前、イベント日程、安全についての注意や蛍の生息場所等、幅広く伝えています。

このバラエティー豊かなグラフィクパネルを見ているだけで、この公園がいかに地域のコミュニティーに愛されているのかがわかりますね。
