The vast number of magazines were published right after the world war under the new democratic Japanese system.  The clean glass shelves displayed dozens of those old publications and in front of the display case, a touch screen monitor is provided for searching the info.

戦後の民主国家成立に伴い発行された大量の雑誌が、ケース内のガラス本棚に綺麗に並べられています。何十冊もの古い雑誌が収められたガラスケースの前には、来館者が自分で情報検索できるタッチ・スクリーン・モニターが設置されています。

実物資料とデジタル技術が健全に組み合わさった展示ですね。

How an Art museum dealt with designed product: Museum of Modern Art, Saitama /美術館での工業デザイン製品の扱い：埼玉県立近代美術館

The MoMA (Museum of Modern ART, NY) is one of the best known museum in the world who has been collecting good designed products as their permanent collection since their establishment in 1932.  The way they display those products to the visitors, they treat the artifact as a original piece of art, off limit from the visitor.

But not in Saitama.

They put their chair collections in the hall way, feel free to sit and feel how much comfortable they might be. Totally accessible for the visitors.

 ニューヨークの近代美術館は1932年の開館以来、美術品とともにデザイン製品を収集し永久保存している事でも有名です。それらの工業製品を展示するときには、オリジナルの美術作品の展示と同じように、基本的には手を触れさせない展示手法で公開されます。

しかし埼玉県立近代美術館は違います。

収蔵している椅子のコレクションは廊下などに配置され、来館者は自由に座り心地を試す事ができるのです。

Sometime it works well to provide a large number when one seeing the type of the artifact first time.

A good example is here, “Jizai Okimono”, free (movement) object, a unique craft which only appeared in during Meiji era, late 19^th to early 20^th century and long forgotten until recentry.

The craft is a realistic forged steel creatures which joints moves as real thing and makes the creature so real, birds, snakes, fish, insects etc.

Since it is not known to the general public in Japan, they exhibited a bunch of Jizai Okimonos, various sizes and types included known largest (probably the world largest) in same kind.

Yes, one will understand what Jizai look like and does move.

初めて目にする資料を展示するとき、量で見せると分かりやすい場合があります。この驚きの明治工芸展の「自在置物」の展示はその良い例でしょう。

「自在置物」と呼ばれる工芸品は、かつて甲冑を造っていた職人が明治期に入ると仕事がなくなったため新しく始待った工芸で、その後最近まで忘れられていた工芸品でした。

鉄の鍛金で、姿や関節の動きなど本物そっくりな鳥や蛇、魚や昆虫など

生き物が造られました。

しかし、「自在置物」一般の日本の人たちには忘れ去られ知られていないものですので、この展覧会では実に多くの「自在置物」が展示されていました。この展示を見れば初めて「自在置物」を知った人でも、「自在置物」とはどんな見た目で、どんな動きをするのかがよく理解できます。
