Making chronology exhibit more attractive : The National Museum of Japanese History / 年表を魅力的な展示にするために： 国立歴史民俗博物館

Chronology is a way to representing the historical facts and event in efficient manner. The only problem is ..... always ended us a long boring panel with too much not-interesting texts and information.

The theme for the exhibit was the “Life Style Change” in modern history in Japan and related scene was presented by the photographs, then small models of bikes and cars along with the small figures wearing the typical fashion at that time.

Seeing those models recalls the old memory.

歴史的事実や出来事を展示で伝える時、時系列に文字や年号を効率重視で並べただけの長いグラフィックパネルとして展示されるのがほとんどです。大概文字だらけで、あまり面白味のない展示となってしまいます。

ここの例は、そんな年表を少しでも魅力的にしようと工夫がされています。

テーマは現代史に於ける生活の変遷。各時代の様子を写真で伝え、自動車や人物の模型を組み合わせています。人物模型は当時の流行のファッションに身を包んでいますので、見ていると往年のことを思い出されます。

Creating a scenery in past: The National Museum of Japanese History / 情景再現展示： 国立歴史民俗博物館

To exhibit a historical event, things in past or remote location, they sometime recreate a scenery as if the visitor is just eye witnessing the event.

It is a common exhibit technique and effective, especially combined with appropriate information materials, graphics, text, lights and sound effects, etc.

歴史的な出来事や過去の様子、遠く離れた場所の事柄などを解説する場合、情景を再現した展示で紹介する技法は、洋の東西を問わず博物館ではよく行われています。情景再現の展示では、解説パネルのテキストや写真、光や音響の演出などを組み合わせて関連する情報を提供すると理解促進の効果を高める事ができます。

Small exhibition at the public corner: Tokyo Station/ 駅構内の小さな展示コーナー、東京駅

There is a rail track graphics installed on Tokyo station’s pass way in front of the steam locomotive driving wheel monument that there for a long time.

Along with the floor graphics, simple text graphic was also installed on the columns near by that explaining the historic C62 SL, fastest and largest SL in Japanese history that those three driving wheels were from.
