Wow, felt such a strong silent force from these tiny plants !?

The museum is located in so called the “Bonsai Village” in Omiya, Saitama and became a well-known place for bonsai enthusiasts and attracted many visitors from all over the world lately.

All exhibited bonsais were meticulously trimmed; I mean the master gardeners in decays, purposely formed every single detail possibly over a century or more, real time consuming piece of art. 

Beside bonsai, what I like was the design of the museum space.  The entrance hall was a open space with one side of which facing to the courtyard was floor to sealing glass wall that made a grant view of the garden full of bonsais, beautiful welcome scenery.  Then move to the exhibit room that was a nallow and long corridor like space that bonsais were arranged on only to the left-hand side.  Because of this linear display arrangement, I could appreciate the bonsai without any visual distraction, other visitors behind for instance.  I enjoy admiring the shape and discovering some exiting details in such a small full-blossomed plum tree.

Then the end of the exhibit leads to the courtyard, where more bonsais were displayed under the sky.  Here, you could walk around on each plant and appreciate from any angles.

I decided to sitting on the bench under warm sun, spend a quality time there.  I felt relaxed and happy by watching these aged bonsais. 

May be those little old trees released me some positive force？!

*I strongly recommend making a side trip to the nebouring bonsai stores where you could walk around great number of bonsais in their garden, free of charge in most cases.

おぉッ、小さな樹のくせにスッゴイ強いパワー出てる？！

この博物館は大宮の「盆栽村」として栄えた場所に建てられて、今ではある意味海外での方が有名で世界中の盆栽好きのメッカになってるそうです。

展示されている盆栽はどれも、職人さんが何十年、あるいは百年以上もかけて実に見事に創り上げた一級の芸術品ですわ。

盆栽の他にも気に入った事は博物館の空間計画ですね。まず、エントランス空間の中庭に面した壁は床から天井までのガラスとなっているので、盆栽が並べられた美しい景色で来館者を迎え入れてくれるんですよ。

これは素晴らしい、景色でのおもてなし。

展示室に入ると細長い廊下のような空間になっていて、左手側だけに盆栽が並べられている。盆栽の展示は片側だけなので、背景の人が目障りになるような心配が無く、一つ一つの盆栽に集中できますス。パチパチ！

おかげさまで、ピンクの花を満開にしていた梅の盆栽をゆっくり楽しむ事が出来ました。

展示室から導かれて中庭へと向かいます。庭には青空の下に沢山の盆栽が並んでいて、周りを歩いていろんな角度から盆栽を眺め、観察してみました。

しばらく暖かい日差しのもと中庭のベンチに座り、少しくつろぎながら

盆栽を見ていたら、おやおや、リラックスしてきてとても幸せな気持ちになりました。

ひょっとして、小さな樹から凄い勢いで気が出てたんとチャウ？

＊ぜひ周辺の盆栽園を訪問して、庭に並んだ盆栽をご覧になる事をお勧めします。ほとんどの盆栽園は無料です。

The Kasumigaseki Bldg.
 霞ヶ関ビル 

Located in the bottom of the Kasumigaseki-building, which was opened in 1968 as a first modern office sky skyscraper in Japan and renovated in 2001.  This stare case was a part of the renovation to cerebrate the memory of this site going back to the Edo period.  Each step represents the year with some graphics, Ukiyoe for instance, etched on the granite surface.

Glad to see an exhibit tells the history under your feet, Clever!

1968年にオープンした、ご存知日本初の高層ビル霞ヶ関ビルは、2001年に改修されてました。改修を機に造られたこの階段には、江戸までさかのぼり土地の歴史を教えてくれます。各ステップごとの御影石面に、年号と浮世絵等のグラフィックがエッチングされていてるんです。

こんな所にも展示があって嬉しいけど、一本やられた！

What’s in the closet? / 押入のどこだっけ？

Usually, when you design the casing for the artifact, you have to give up the option for let visitor makes flip around or close look the object.

However, in this clever exhibit is the answer to this dilemma by using the touch screen monitors in front of the exhibit cases. Now, visitor could handle the artifact, rotate and enlarge, watching the movie or listening the guidance by themselves.

The things I like most is their interface design for how easy to find a particular artifact.  The artifact location in the top screen is same as the case, thus able to scan the drawers virtually before looking throw actual drawers. 

I wish I have this monitor in my place!

展示のデザインをするにあたって資料をケースに入れて展示する場合、来館者に資料に近づいてもらったり、いろんな角度から見てもらうオプションは、普通あきらめざるを得ない訳ですよね。

しかし、このタッチスクリーンモニターを展示ケースの前に置くという、賢い手法でそのジレンマを解決した展示がありました。来館者は自由に資料を回転、拡大したり、映像や解説の音声を視聴できるのです。

一番気に入ったのは探している資料が見つけ易いインターフェースのデザイン。

トップスクリーンでの資料位置はケースの中と一緒なので、実際の資料ケースで探す前にモニタ−を使って資料場所を簡単に見つけちゃえました。

こんなモニター、家にも欲しい！
