The entrance exhibit

This is a temporary exhibit on the “Rice” which has significant cultural and historical meaning for Japanese and the exhibit introduced its relation to the people in Japan.

The contents are more to the cultural aspect than scientific side, thus it would be very informative for the foreign visitors to understand how Japanese culture was build around their main staple food, rice.  Actually, rice represents a symbol of the ‘spirit’ in the traditional Japanese religion Shinto’s doctrine.

The exhibit uses hands on approach in good variety of different types from clunk spinning analog operations to computer controlled multimedia devises and also provide number of different exhibition experiences, touch the samples, watch the video, spin the handle, listening the sound of rice field and writing a character on a tiny grain of rice etc.

I found this exhibit is very informative, well designed contents and provide fun experience!

これは日本の文化や歴史に特別な意味を持つ「お米」についての展示で、日本人とお米の関係に付いて紹介しています。

展示内容は科学的な側面よりは文化的な内容が多く取り上げられ、外国からの来館者にとっては、日本ではその主食であるお米を中心に文化が築かれている事を良く理解できる展示内容となっています。日本の伝統的な宗教の神道では、お米は「魂」の象徴と捉えられている程です。

単純に手で操作する手法から、コンピューターで制御されたマルチメディア装置までの様々な種類のハンズオン展示が用意されています。また、展示体験も資料に触れたり、映像を見たり、ハンドルを回したり、田んぼの音を聞いたり、小さな米粒に文字を書いたりするなど様々な仕掛けが用意されています。

内容が深く、展示デザインも素晴らしく、楽しい体験がイッパイの展示でした。

Genga, Otomo Katsuhiro Original Pictures / 大友克洋 原画展

Kaneda's replica bike that has authorized license plate and allowed to sit on for taking pictures

Otomo Katsuhiro is one of the charisma ‘Manga-ka’, Cartoonist, in Japanese Manga circle, best known as an author of the cult cyber punk Science Fiction manga titled “Akira”. 　It is a story of the ruined Tokyo in 21^st. century, Neo Tokyo, where new city and order were re-developed around the big crater of the ground zero that resulted by the weapons of mass destruction where off limits to the Neo-Tokyo citizens and kept a national secrets…

Genga, Otomo Katsuhiro Original Pictures exhibit was held a couple years ago and I had a chance to enjoy appreciating his lifelong achievements.

This Original Pictures exhibition covers most of his work in original, manga and illustrations, from his early days to the latest. 

Also every single page of Akira’s original pictures for its 120 episodes was displayed in the specially designed framed shelves which able to watch the all-original work from all directions. 

Understandably, the exhibition had been restricted taking pictures in most of the spaces, only allowed for picture taking was a room where recreated life sized future looking motorbike which a bike gang leader and Akira’s main character Kaneda was using in the manga.

大友克彦は衝撃的なサイバーパンクSFマンガ「アキラ」の作家で、日本ではカリスマ的な人気作家です。

物語は再開発された21世紀のネオ東京を舞台にし、その中心は大量破壊兵器によって出来た大きなクレーターがあり、市民の立ち入りが許されない大きな名国家秘密が隠され…

大友克洋　原画展は２年程前に開催され、大友さんの半生をかけた作品を堪能する機会に恵まれました。展覧会では作家のほとんどの作品、イラストやマンガ等の原画が初期の作品から現在の作品まで展示されていました。

また、「アキラ」の120話全ての原画も、全周囲から眺められるように特別にデザインされた棚に並べて展示されていました。

当然ながらこの展覧会は撮影制限があり、唯一「アキラ」の主人公の暴走族リーダーの金田の愛車である未来的デザインのバイクの実物大のレプリカの置いてある部屋の中だけは撮影が可能でした。

The vending machine you seen everywhere in Japan

Everybody knew Japan is a world Bonanza place for the vending machine.

But I didn’t know how the refrigerator system in side works. The manufactures had been successfully reduced the electricity consumption more than 70% in over 20 years.  The trick was unlike cooling the whole storage like ordinary refrigerator, but gradually cooling the stoked beverage and makes cans in front of the line coolest, Interesting!

日本が自動販売機のメッカだと言う事は良く知られていますが、その中身の冷蔵システムがどのように機能しているかについては全く知りませんでした。メーカーは過去２０年間で70％も省エネを実現していました。その秘訣は、通常の冷蔵庫のように収納庫全てを冷やす訳ではなく、段階に冷やし、先頭部に有る缶が一番冷たくなるように工夫されています。スゴイ！

You will find your way if you understand those languages, however, you will be sorry to find out that you couldn’t ask the questions, complaint or report an emergency if you don’t speak Chinese, English or Japanese…

この館内案内サインは、簡体中国語、英語、日本語、韓国語、ロシア語の５カ国の来館者達にいき場所の案内をしています。もしこれらの言葉がわかるのでしたら、館内で迷う事は無いでしょう。しかし、簡体中国語、英語、日本語がわからない人は、質問をしたり、苦情を申し込んだり、緊急事態の報告をする事が出来ません…残念!!!

Reconstructing the scene: National Museum of American History 情景再現の 展示：国立アメリカ歴史博物館

This reconstructed scenery is an aircraft factory in Germany manufacturing Camouflage fabric for the plane’swing skin during WWI era.

The realistic figures in front, tools, materials, working desk and even BMW aircraft engine is exhibited as a plop. The back wall is an enlarged B/W factory overview print, creating the feeling of being inside of the factory.

この情景再現は、第1次世界大戦当時のドイツの飛行機工場で、カモフラ−ジュ模様の翼に貼る布を作る様子を再現しています。

リアルに作られた人形が手前に置かれ、道具、材料、作業机そしてBMWの航空用エンジンまで展示されています。

背景には白黒写真が掲示され、まるで飛行機工場の中にいるような効果を出しています。
