Art in public place: Higashi Shinjuku 1/ 公共空間の芸術：東新宿駅 1

This mural is titled as  ‘Shinjuku Tsutsuji (Shinjuku Azalea)’ by Daisuke Nakayama.

Azalea is Shinjuku’s official flower and the artist used metaphor of Shinjuku’s cosmopolitan demography.  According to the artist, Azalea has so many varieties across world and hard to tell slight difference by casual look.

この壁画は中山ダイスケの作品「新宿躑躅（しんじゅくつつじ）」です。

作家は国際的な新宿の人たちを、この新宿区の区花に指定されているツツジを使って表現しています。ツツジは世界中に種類が多く、その違いはチョット見ただけでは区別がつかないモノだそうです。

The local train line, Seto Line by Meitetsu Railroad Company was opened in 1905 in order to ship out city’s main product, potteries.

Since then, the line brought people and goods for over the century and supported cities economy.

The line runs between city of Seto and city of Nagoya.

I found a display case at Seto line’s Nagoya side station, Sakae Machi, that promoting the seasonal Hina Matsuri theme.

When the tourist arrive Seto, they will find more Hina Matsuri’s dolls in the city guide sign’s display cases.

地元のローカル線、名鉄瀬戸線は瀬戸の焼き物を運ぶために1905年に開業しました。以来、一世紀以上も人とモノを運び、瀬戸の経済を支えてきました。

瀬戸線は瀬戸と名古屋を結んでいます。

この季節に合わせたひな祭りをテーマにした展示は、瀬戸線の名古屋側の駅、栄町駅で見つけました。

瀬戸市を訪ねると、市内案内サインにはひな人形が展示されていて観光客を楽しませてくれます。

The indigo painting is a ceramic tile

The city of Seto that used to be successful as the centre of the pottery in Japan is trying hard to reactivate its economies by promoting their historical pottery culture as the tourism resources.

The area guide sign they put around the area has a plexiglass case for displaying the seasonal ceramic artwork.  In this picture, there are a couple of dales, king and queen, for May 3^rd. Hina-Matsuri (Girl’s Day) when display the traditional dolls in the living room for cerebrating girls well being.

They displays different ceramic art work by various artist/artisan reside in the city.  The tourist could enjoy different ceramic art in each sign display while walking around the city.

陶器の中心として栄えた瀬戸市では、焼き物文化の歴史を観光資源として地域の活性化に努力しています。

市内の案内サインもアクリルケース付きで、季節に合わせた陶器の作品を展示しています。この写真ではひな人形の女雛と男雛が展示さていました。

市内のサインケースには、市内在住の作家の様々なひな人形が展示され、観光客の目に留まるようになっています。
