The studio I used to work

There was a special event at Tokyo Midtown  displaying 1/7 scale Godzilla head in front of the prestigious shopping mall in downtown Tokyo.

The brutal looking creature always looks good against sharp skyscrapers as the background.

I used to work at the movie studio where this monster movie was produced and actuary had been shooting, old memories.

東京の高級商業施設、東京ミッドタウンの正面に７分の１スケールのゴジラが設置されていました。やはり凶暴なゴジラが近代的な高層ビルを背景現れるとかっこいいですね。

実は若い頃、この怪獣映画の撮影所にいたことがあり、ちょうど撮影もしていました。懐かしいですね。

In this exhibition, one of the exhibit was a 1/100 scale model of the building that this show was held.

The model has a tiny red cut out paper figure, rather than red triangle usually used on the map,  that indicating you and  where you were in the exhibit floor.

I’ve seen hundreds of architectural models but I suppose this is first time seeing myself in the model.  Interesting.

この展覧会の展示として、展示会場となっている建物の縮尺100分１のスケール模型がありました。

　

模型では現在地を表すのに、通常よくあるような三角形ではなく、「自分」を表す赤い紙を切り抜いた小さな人形が置かれ、展示空間の中で自分がいる場所がどこなのかがわかるようになっていました。

今まで何百も建築模型は見てきましたが、このように「自分」が中にいるような仕掛けの模型は初めて見ました。

面白いです。

Finding the length of the circumference

This rectangular ruler used by carpenters for centuries has different scale on front and back.

The standard scale is marked on the front side and backside has two types of scales, Pi on short side and square root of two on long side.

They are used for finding the length of the circumference of the log or max. size of lumber cut from the log easily.

伝統的な指矩は表目と裏目では異なった目盛りが刻まれています。

表目には通常の尺単位が刻まれていますが、裏目の短い方には円周率が、長い方にはルート２の値が記されています。

この目盛りによって、丸太の円周や切り出せる角材のサイズが簡単に分かります。

素晴らしい道具です。

Cute display: Bunkamura / かわいいディスプレー：Bunkamura

There are small show windows installed in front of the building entrance to Bunkamura is a art complex where hosts live and movie theatre, concert hall, museum, gallery, café, restaurant, book store and trendy goods store, etc.

The displays in the show windows are promoting the facilities in the building, as well as the sponsors in cute style display.

Bunkamuraは、演劇シアター、コンサートホール、映画館、ギャラリー、カフェ、レストラン、書店、流行の雑貨店などを持つ複合文化施設です。

建物の入り口には小さなショーウィンドーがあり、シアターなどの設備やスポンサーをかわいいディスプレーで紹介しています。

Inventing own measurement system 2: ‘Measuring’, this much, that much, How much?’ / 自分でつくる計測単位 2：単位展、あれくらい、それくらい、どれくらい？

 When we recognize the size or volume of the objects with out using any measurement instruments, we only can tell the size roughly how big that is and sometime use own hand to indicate the actual size we think it would be.

This exhibit is recreating that kind of experience with sophisticated IT interactive programs.

When visitor gestured the size of ball they imagined by holding an imaginary ‘ball’ in the air, the censer recognizes the size the visitors’ hands made and select similar size round objects, apple, baseball, basket ball or succor ball.

No need to input actual diameter by numbers, need to only make he boll size as ‘This much’.

定規や秤を使わずものの大きさを認識する場合、だいたいの大きさを理解し、時によっては手を使っておおよその大きさを示す事があります。

この展示はそういった体験を、先進のITインタラクティブの装置を使って試せるものです。

来館者が空中で思い描いたボールの大きさを手で作ると、センサーがそれを判断し、リンゴや野球の球、バスケットやサッカーボールなど類似の大きさの丸いものをモニターに映し出します。

直径の大きさを数字で示す必要がなく、「このくらい」と手で示すだけで良いのです。

人に優しいシステムですね！
