The passengers were watching how Chicagoans use their public bus

The Chicago’s public bus service joined to the city public transit system in 1952 and became as The Chicago Transit Authority, second largest public transportation system in US. 

In the exhibit, the visitor could have a little experience being on their bus as a passenger.

The bus’s body was cut in half and rear end was replaced by a screen for projecting the rear side of the interior, which projected the image of Chicagoans getting on and off the bus, sound and vibrations with it.

First time I rode Chicago’s public bus and it was a unique experience for sure!

シカゴの公共バスは市の公共交通システムに1952年から統合され、シカゴ交通局となり、今や米国で２番目の規模を誇っています。

この展示では、市バスに乗客として乗ってみる体験が味わえます。

バスの車体は半分に切られ、後部は車内の様子を映すスクリーンとなっていて、シカゴ市民がバスを乗り降りする様子が上映され、音と振動とともに乗車体験ができます。

初めてシカゴのバスに乗りましたが、貴重な体験でした！

This was one of the best warehouse exhibits I’ve ever seen by far.

Being inside NRM warehouse, it feels like being in a warehouse style large scale thrift stores common in North America, reminded the excitement of finding interesting objects after objects while wondering through the aisle of the furniture, farm equipment, tool and toys.  The storage full of those countless railroad artifact collections were stacked high in both side of the aisle. 

I am not a big railroad fun but didn’t mind spending sometime, walking around appreciating new findings.

この収蔵庫展示は、今まで見た中では特にすばらしかった施設の一つです。

収蔵庫の中は、まるで北米に良くある大型倉庫式古道具屋さんの中で、家具や農具、道具やおもちゃのあふれる通路を通りながら次から次に現れてくる宝物に出会う楽しい体験と同じようにワクワクしてしまいす。

自分は決して鉄道ファンでは無いのですが、この収蔵庫をゆっくり楽しみながら歩き回っていました。

Symbol Exhibit, Geo-Cosmos: National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) / シンボル展示、ジオコスモス：日本科学未来館

 President Barack Obama will see this globe, Geo-Cosmos, suspended in the Museum’s open space during his official Japan visit today.  The globe was covered with organic EL panels, which displays several globe images, previous day’s earth image, temperature distribution of ocean currents, four seasons, old map and plate tectonics etc.

It is a quite impressive exhibit to watch.

公式訪問中のオバマ大統領は、この空間に浮かぶ地球を本日見る事になるでしょう。地球の表面は有機ELパネルで覆われていて、昨日の地球の映像、海流温度分布、四季、古地図、大陸移動の様子等、様々な地球の様子を上映します。

しばらく見入ってしまうような展示です。

Yes, you are on the Route 66 in Okurahoma!

This is an exhibit on a “Route 66”, which for me brings back the memory of may favorite old TV show ‘Route 66’.  Probably it would same for the people in may age who saw this American cultural program all over the planet, in the US of cause.
The exhibit projects the postcard picture images from Los Angels to Chicago on the backdrop map that hanged overhead and the old vehicles were lineup underneath.The best part of this exhibit is, the floor slab the visitors standing is actually a peel off a portion of the road, Route 66.First time walkin’ on the Route 66!

これはアメリカ横断道路「ルート66」の展示で、自分にとっては昔見ていた同名のお気に入りの番組「ルート66」の思い出を呼び戻します。アメリカを含め、当時、その番組を見ていた世界中の人には皆同じ思いでしょう。
展示では手前に自動車が並び、頭上につり下げられたアメリカの地図上にロサンゼルスからシカゴまでのルートに沿って絵葉書きの風景写真が順次投影されて当時の雰囲気を醸し出しています。この展示の素晴らしい点は、来館者がたっているコンクリートの道路は移設された本物のルート66の道路の一部なのです。 初めてルート66を歩きました！アメリカ・オン・ザ・ムーブ、アメリカ歴史博物館

Well #7

This is a remains of the well #7, or “Lucky No. 7”, the first oil well strucked the oil in Saudi Arabia in 1938. The history tells the discovery of the oil in this region changed the fate of Saudi Arabia and the rest of world since then.

It was located outside of the Saudi Aramco Exhibit, an Oil Museum owned by Petroleum giant, Saudi Aramco.

これは1938年にサウジアラビアで最初に石油を採掘した７号油田、またの名を「ラッキーNo.７」と呼ばれる油田跡です。

この地での石油の発見はその後のサウジアラビア、ひいては世界の歴史を大きく変える事となったのです。

この油田跡は、石油大手のサウジアラムコ社の石油博物館の外にありました。

Intoroducing the history of the Tokiwa-so

There was a post war style low budget apartment called “Tokiwa-so” in this neighborhood during 1952 to 82, which became respected as a sacred place among Manga (Cartoon) enthusiasts in Japan. 

The tenants of this simple apartment used to be mainly some yang manga artists who later became Successful masters, Osamu-Tezuka, Fujio Fujiko A, Fujio F Fujiko, Shohtaro Ishinomoki, and Fujio Akatsuka for instance. 

Even the apartment was long gone for decades; still many manga fans are visiting regularly from all over the country.  The local commercial district group builds a bonze apartment model as a monument and its interpretive panels to inform the history.  Also, near by shops and streets are putting out signs and posters, promoting the identity of the Manga sacred place.

かつてこの近辺には戦後に建てられた、簡素な「トキワ荘」と呼ばれたアパートが1952年から1982年までの間存在し、トキワ荘は今やマンガファンにとっては聖地となっています。

アパートの住民は当時の若手漫画家で、手塚治虫、藤子藤雄A, 藤子F藤雄、石ノ巻章太郎、赤塚不二夫などその後漫画界の重鎮となった方ばかりでした。

トキワ荘が無くなってから何十年たっても、全国からマンガファンが訪れて来るので、地元の商店街がブロンズでトキワ荘の模型を記念碑として建て、解説のパネルも設置しています。また、近隣の商店、通りにはマンガの聖地をプロモーションするポスターやサインを掲げています。

Omokage -bashi (bridge) cross the Kanda river had been a long history,  appeared in Hiroshige's Ukiyoe for instance and used in the lyrics of the songs in number of times in past few decades.

It also popular place for great row of cherry blossom trees.

There is a walk pass beside Kanda river and small sign was set up for informing the fish ladder installed  in front about 15 years ago.   The freshwater trout had been camping back to Kanda river 5 years later.

面影橋は神田川に架かる長い歴史の有る橋で広重の浮世絵にも描かれ、ここ数十年では歌の歌詞にも良く使われています。また桜並木の素晴らしさでも良く知られた場所です。

神田川添いには歩道が整備され、15年程前に設置された魚道についての解説パネルが作られています。
