Urban design: Fujimi Egawa Promenade / 都市計画：富士見江川

The city of Fujimi developed along Fujimi Egawa that run through city’s residential area to up grade separating pedestrians and automobiles.

They developed the road and named it as ‘Fujimi Egawa Promenade’ in 1997.  The road is designed as such the drivers would naturally reduce the speed by zigzagging, pebble stone surface and narrow width.

For pedestrian walk path, a small stream, benches and cute animal figures were installed, Monkey, fox, Dachshund, snail, small wild boar, gopher and etc.

When you see the animals in this kind of situation, usually mean they are/were habitats in the area.  However, what gopher in here is any one’s guess.

富士見市は、住宅地を流れる江川沿いの車道と歩道を再開発しました。1997年に竣工した道路は「富士見江川プロムナード」と名付けられ、ジグザクの道路、石畳風の路面、狭い道幅などで自動車が自然に速度を落とすよう設計されています。

歩行者用の歩道には小さなせせらぎやベンチ、ニホンザル、キツネ、ダックスフンド、カタツムリ、ウリ坊やプレーリードックなどかわいい動物の彫刻が置かれています。

通常このような場で動物が設置されていると、この地に生息している/していた動物という事になりますが、どうしてプレーリードックなどが居るのか謎ですね。

The interesting attempt on this exhibit was free poster give away.

There were three different posters distributed in different timing of the entire exhibit period.

Posters were also displayed like the exhibit, didn’t look like free give away items in first look.  There were small sign notifying free to take home with white rubber bands beside.

When I visited, two types of the poster were free to take, a generous move, praise for Sony.

この展覧会での面白い取り組みは、ポスターの無料お持ち帰りです。

全部で３種類のポスターがあり、会期時期によって配布する種類を替えていました。

ポスターもまるで展示資料みたいに置かれていたので、チュッと見には持ち帰れるものだとはわかりませんでした。

小さなサインで自由に持って帰れる旨書かれていて、脇に輪ゴムが置いてありました。

Art in Public Space: Ikuo Hirayama / 公共の場の芸術：平山郁夫

This colourful stained grass mural that titled as ‘Rakuen (paradise)’ was originally created by a Japanese painting artist, Ikuo Hirayama (1930-2009) who was regarded as the highest-ranking painter in Japan.

This stained glass artwork was installed in the open space along the underground pathway in Ginza subway station and sometimes used as the space for concert, event or small exhibition.

このカラフルなステンドグラス壁画は、日本で最高の画家の評価を受けていた平山郁夫　(1930-2009)　が原画を描いたものです。

この壁画は東京メトロの銀座駅の地下通路にある広いスペースに設置されており、コンサートやイベント、展覧会などの会場としても使われています。

Street signs: Aoyama Rouen Walk / 街角の標識：青山緑陰散歩

This street sign is guiding a walkway called ‘Aoyama Ryokuin Walk’. There are dozens of similar route called Walkway of Historic Culture in Tokyo.

This route is one of the routes, which stretches 2.6 km from Omote-sando station to Nogizaka.

この標識は青山緑陰散歩の道筋を案内しています。都内には、「歴史と文化の散歩道」と名付けられた、このような歴史を訪ねる散歩道が何十も作られているようです。

この散歩道はその一つで、表参道駅から乃木坂までの2.6kmを歩くことができます。

Using floor as a part of exhibit: The National Museum of Riyadh / 床を使った展示：リヤド国立博物館

This museum building was designed by Canadian architect firm, Moriyama & Teshima Architect who also designed Canadian Embassy building in Aoyama, Tokyo.

The museum opened in 1999 thus still look new in most of the exhibits.

Since it was a well funded ‘National’ project, there are many elaborate exhibit pieces all over, multimedia, full scale recreated town corner, replica artifact or well detailed building models, etc.

この博物館の建物は青山にある在日カナダ大使館も手がけた、カナダの建築家のモリヤマ＆テシマが設計をしました。

1999年に開館したものなので、まだ中の展示は新しさを失ってません。展示はマルチメディア、情景再現、複製資料や詳細な建築模型など、なかなか手の込んだものが多くさすがは「国立」の博物館です。

この博物館でも、展示空間の床面を展示の一部として有効に使っていました。
