Usually, public building is heavily
required functional aspect, not much attention is paid on the aesthetic side of
design.
In Japan, we have extended police’s station
in the community called ‘Koban’ (police box) where police men are stationed 24
hours and dealing with crime prevention, report lost and found, teach directions
etc. that locate many places in the community.
This is a specially designed Koban in Ueno Park
that easily recognizable from distance in the large park otherwise non-characteristic
small government building in most cases.

通常公共の建造物は機能性が重視され、美的デザインに関わる部分にはあまり配慮はなされません。
日本では交番と呼ばれる、警察署の地域への出先機関のようなものが地域の様々な場所に設置されて、防犯、落し物、道案内など様々な活動を行っています。
この上野公園にある特別にデザインされた交番は、広い公園内でも遠くからでもすぐ目につきますが、通常ならば交番は無個性な建物です。
