Exhibit in public space : JR Tamachi Station / 公共の場の展示：田町駅

A powerful mosaic and ceramic mural is installed in JR Tamachi station.  The artist was originally from Belgium, Louis Fransen (1928〜2010) who spend last half of life in Japan and created number of public arts.

This mural was taken the scene from the historical meeting in 1868 between then Shogun Government representative, Kaishu Katsu and a Revel leader Nanshu (a.k.a. Takamori) Saigo.

By the result of this meeting, Edo, Shogun government, who ruled Japan for over 260 years was agreed to surrender peacefully otherwise strong resistance with many causalities were predicted.

Near Tamachi station, the Satsuma clan’s satellite resident in Tokyo was located and this historic meeting took place in there.

この力強いモザイク、陶壁画はJR田町駅に設置されています。ベルギー出身で後半は日本で活動をして多くの公共アートを製作し続けた作家、ルイ・フレンゼン（1928−2010）の作品です。

この壁画は、1868年に行われた西郷南洲（隆盛）と勝海舟の会談の模様を描いています。

この会談の結果、260年以上続いた江戸幕府が激しい抵抗をせずに無血開城に同意することになりました。

かつてこの会談が行われた薩摩藩の江戸屋敷は田町駅の近くにありま

した。
