This digital exhibit offer the visitor to search through Samurai’s swards and battle armors Data Base which drawn in the ancient scrolls that displayed beside.

In the exhibition space, the real swards and armor were on the display for studying the detail.

Good way to combine actual specimens, painting images and Digitized Information.

このデジタル展示は、すぐ傍に展示されている実物の巻物に描かれている刀剣や武具のデータベースに、来館者が自由にアクセスできるものです。また展示室内には、実物の刀剣や武具もケース内に展示されているので、細かな部分を観察することができるようになっています。

デジタル化された展示装置と描かれた絵画、実物資料を複合的に組み合わせた良い例だと思います。

Restoring the lost colours: Digital-Explore the digital world of historical materials, the National Museum of Japanese History / 失われた色を蘇らせる： デジタルで楽しむ歴史資料展、国立歴史民俗博物館

The original full colour paintings, 15 pictures as a set, had been kept in the Catholic Church, Uragami Tenshu–do in Nagasaki, but destroyed by the atomic bomb by the end of WWII.

There was a set of photographic glass dry plate which probably taken around 1930-40, but no colour reference other than only one surviving painting out of 15.

The researchers analyzed the B/W shade of dry plate image against single surviving painting for identifying the original colours.  They also compared other similar paintings in same era as the reference for assuming the original colour.

Thanks to the digital technology, they were able to make an intelligent guessing for the true colours and recreated the whole coloured picture set.

１５枚一組のフルカラーの原画は、長崎の浦上天主堂にありましたが、原爆の被害で１枚を残し焼失してしまいました。わずかに1930−40年頃撮影されたガラス乾板が残されていたので、焼失を免れた１枚の絵の色と、ガラス乾板に写された白黒の階調を比べて、元々の色を探りました。また、同じ頃描かれた類似の絵画も参考として色の復元は進められました。

デジタル技術があったおかげで、ある程度の確率となりますが、当時の色を想定復元することができたのです。

When a fragile old painting is digitalized as a super high resolution digital image, it could become user friendly exhibit which visitor could examine the detail freely.  And for the museum side, chance to give much more detailed information to the visitor who will willing to go any deeper.

This is an example.  A folding screen depicting the people’s daily life of old Kyoto is on display and a large flat screen monitor is mounted on the which shows digital image of same painting.

Visitor could access the monitor freely and　could learn by him/herself.

痛みやすい古い日本画は高精細画像でデジタル化するとにより、絵画の詳細を自由に検証可能なユーザーフレンドリーな展示として利用してもらえます。

また博物館側にとっても、詳細まで知りたがる来館者にはかなり専門的な情報まで提供することが可能な展示となります。

デジタル化により、自由に画面を操作しながら広く深い情報を学ぶことができるのです。

Digital Data Base has become popular since its potentially user friendly capacity.

Here is a good example.  A visitor could go through all museum painting collection on Kimono (traditional women costume in Japan) as a motif that decorated with beautiful textile design, and examine any of the detail by selecting a Kimono painting, enlarge the detail and learn the historic back ground.  The data base is sorted by the type of cloth, graphic motif, craft technique and design.

You will forget time when you go through watching those beautiful painted Kimonos.

デジタルデータベースは、利用しやすいDBの提供を実現できる可能性が高く、最近よく使われるようになってきました。

この展示はその良い例と思います。

館の収蔵する美しいデザインの着物が描かれた、日本画作品のデータベースです。

着物の絵画は着物の種類、描かれている柄やデザインで分類され、来館者は好きな着物の絵を選び、拡大しながら細部まで見ることができます。

美しい着物を見ていると、時の経つのを忘れてしまいます。
