The museum was build
as a part of centennial commemoration for the Iwate Prefectural Morioka
Technical High school which established in 1898. Even though the school was located
far from nation’s industrial center like Kanto regions, I could tell this school
had been well supported locally and respected as the place for the region’s
young elites when I saw the exhibited artifacts, the planing machine, nation’s
first refrigerator by Hitachi, Riku-oh motor cycle and so on. All were rare and significant industrial heritage, kept them in the mint
condition and well maintained. The
exhibit space was small and simple, artifact, glass-case, text and photo panels,
no nonsense stuff, just only what they really want to exhibit, Pride and History.
*Only the printing
press, which was specified as an “Important cultural property” by the Agency
for Cultural Affairs, was a replica model due to the long-term loan to the Museum
Meiji-mura in Gifu.

盛工百年館
歴史と卒業生の誇りを語る展示資料
1898年に設立された岩手県の盛岡工業高校の100周年を記念した博物館。重文指定の平削り盤や、日立の初代冷蔵庫、陸王オートバイ等の資料を見ていると、この学校が位置する盛岡は、工業の中心地関東からは離れてはいるが、地域で支えられ優秀な若者が目指した学校だったと言う事が、展示を見ていると良く伝わってきた。資料の保存状態とても良く保たれている。小ぢんまりとした展示室は、展示の王道、資料、ケース、展示パネルの３点セットだけで構成されたベーシックな展示。このシンプルさが、展示で本当に伝えたい一番大切なメッセージ、「誇りと歴史」をしっかり際立たせているようだ。
