ATLAS Lego Model：Waseda University/ ATLASレゴ模型：早稲田大学

ATLAS is a particle physics experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN that is searching for new discoveries in the head-on collisions of protons of extraordinarily high energy.

A professor from Waseda University was one of the Japanese representatives on that project which over 2,800 physicists from 37 countries and 169 Institutions were involved.

There is a show case located in the hall near University's cafeteria where many students walk by.  They display the graphic panels for introducing the project and also showing the Atlas model created with Lego blocks.

The Lego model was designed by a researcher in Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen who was one of the scientist collaborated with the project.   The Lego Company was supported for providing the model kit; only 16 sets are manufactured and distributed among the organizations that participated the Atlas project.

ATLASとは、非常に高いエネルギーの陽子を正面衝突させて新しい発見を研究している、CERN研究機関の大型ハドロン衝突型加速器での素粒子物理学実験プロジェクトです。

早稲田大学の教授が日本の研究者の一人として、世界中から37カ国、169の研究機関に属する2,800名以上の物理学者が関係したこのプロジェクトに参加しました。

この展示はATLASの説明とともに、レゴ製のアトラスも紹介しています。

このレゴモデルは、このプロジェクトに参加していたコペンハーゲンにあるニールス・ボー研究所の研究者が設計し、レゴ社の協力を得て、わずか世界中で16セットだけ生産され、ATLASに関係した組織に配られたものです。

Interesting Promotion Display: JR Mitaka Station / 面白い広報宣伝展示：JR三鷹駅

Usually, professional contractor or railroad company employee fabricates this kind of promotion display.

In this display, the graphic panels looked like done by some professionals for sure, however, the models on the table were different story.

It didn’t look like neither professional nor adult employee quality, rather primitive but give warm impression, simply put, child work.

It was August when I saw this display, thus possibly they were the Summer Vacation’s craft project for the elementary pupils.

Sometime, professional display specialists couldn’t beat the special quality of unskilled kids.

通常、この写真のような広報宣伝の展示は専門の業者か、駅の職員によって制作されます。この展示を見ると、グラフィックパネルは専門業者によって作られているようですが、テーブルの上の模型はチョット趣が違います。

専門業者や大人の職員の品質ではありません。素朴で温かな表現をしていまので、まぁ、子どもの作品でしょうか。この展示を見たのは８月でしたので、ひょっとしたら小学生の夏休みの宿題だったのかも知れません。

展示の専門家の仕事でも、時によっては子どもの作品の魅力には勝てないものですね。

This mural is a work of a well-known Japanese style painting artist, Hiroshi Senju, and titled as “Waterfall”.  He describes this work as “The painting is not only for the painter who created, but also it becomes a mirror for the audits, reflects his/ her history, religion, events, sin etc. like screen.”

この壁画は著名な日本画家、千住博の「ウォータフォール」という作品です。

この作品に付いて「絵は、画家だけではなく見る人の心の鏡である。歴史や宗教、出来事や思い出、死生観や罪の意識など、その人をスクリーンのように正直に映し出す。」と解説しています。

素晴らしい作品にはパワフルなメッセージが込められていました！

The same artist as the previous stained-glass mural, Yoko Yamamoto created another mural, mosaic this time, that titled as “Tea Party-Alice’s wonderland series 2” in the same sub-way station.  She said “This is the image of the different time dimension space where warped from the ordinary space.”

The same red waistcoat rabbit appeared in the stained-glass mural is enjoying talking with a gentleman with a silk hat.

前回紹介したステンドグラスの壁画と同じ作家、山本容子の「Tea Party−不思議の国のアリスシリーズ２」という題名のモザイク作品です。この作品について彼女は「日常の空間からワープした異次元の空間をイメージ」したと紹介しています。

前作と同じ赤いチョッキを着た兎が、シルクハットの紳士と話を楽しんでいるようです。

This stained-glass mural is titled as “Hop, Step, Hop, Step” created by the etching print artist Yoko Yamamoto.

She descries her work as “The theme is a rabbits that invites the commuter to different time dimension away from their day-to-day life”

Busy looking rabbit is wearing a red waistcoat and holding a pocket watch.

Obviously, she created her work based on a famous British Children’s literature.

彼女はこの作品について、「日常の時間から離れて異次元に誘う兎をテーマ」と解説しています。

忙しそうにしている兎は、赤いチョッキを着て懐中時計を持っています。

やっぱりイギリスの児童文学をベースに作品を創作されていますね。
