The measurement system must be shared with public, other wise it would be useless.  I know that and I’m sure the person who developed these exhibits as well.

However, as you can see, inventing one’s own measurement system would give a moment to re-thinking our standard systems and its relation to one’s self.

計測単位の仕組みとは、他者と共有できないものは意味がないものとなります。　当然そのことは承知していますし、これらの作品を創った方たちもよくご存じの事と思います。

しかしご覧のように、自分で計測単位などを創り出す行為は、既存の計測システムと自分の関わりなどを考え直す機会となります

I thought this is the weirdest scale I’ve ever seen, mouth size scale for dentist…

Volume and weigh

この展示会では、長さや重さ、時間を計ったり、貨幣を数えるなどのいろんな計測道具が展示されていました。

その中でもこれが一番不思議なものでした。歯医者さん用の口の大きさを測る定規。

単位展：あれくらい、それくらい、それくらい？　六本木

Exhibit by the Comparison 2, Compare the meaning by ‘weight’.: ‘Measuring’, this much, That much, How much?’ / ：比較展示2、 意味を「重さ」で比べる：単位展、あれくらい、それくらい、どれくらい？

This exhibit shows the actual weight (g) of each Hiragana letters and displayed comparing different words and actual weight of the sum of letters, ‘work (23.35 g)/Family (29.22 g)’, ‘dog (24.92 g)/cat (22.83 g)’ and ‘heavy (35.54 g)/light (32.94 g)’.  It also gives the food of thought for meaning of those words when actual weigh is provided.

There is a digital programs to compere the weigh of the words you can make, for instance this visitor is checking the words ‘love/lie’.

この展示はひらがなの文字の重さで、単語の重さを表しています。「しごと (23.35 g) / かてい (29.22 g)」、 「いぬ (24.92 g )/ ねこ (22.83 g)」そして「おもい (35.54 g) / かるい (32.94 g)」。

このように重さを見せられると、言葉の持つ意味についてつい考えてしまいます。

自分で単語を作ってそれぞれの重さを比べられるデジタル展示があります。この写真の来館者は「あい/うそ」を比べています。
