Several museums has started open their collection storage
as a part of Exhibit in recent years. However, most of times, real storage is
still off limit to the public and those open storages are specifically designed
“Exhibit Space” that look like storage where curator could provide many, multiple,
and/or miscellaneous artifact which difficult to fit into the well planed
exhibit theme on the existing exhibit floor. Mind you, nothing wrong for those “open
storage” and honestly I enjoy exploring such place very much.

National Railway Museum, York, UK
The remarkable about this museum Archi-Depot is opens up
the real storage to the visitors. This
place is a private museum operated by Warehouse Terada, a warehouse company who
own Art Storage, Wine Cellar, Media Storage and other ordinary warehouses in
Tokyo area.
At Archi-Depot, is the only museum in Japan that specializes in exhibiting architectural models who store and exhibits great number of “real” architectural models that architects created during initial design study to finished design. Since there are so many world respected architects and architectural offices in Japan, this museum houses many models from those offices and visitors could to observe, learn, and experience them firsthand.

最近いくつかの博物館は、収蔵庫を開放した「収蔵庫展示」を取り入れ始めています。しかし実際には、本物の収蔵庫を開放しているわけではなく、来館者がアクセスしやすいように設計されたの「収蔵庫っぽい展示室」なのです。そういった展示自体を否定するつもりはありませんし、実際自分も「収蔵庫展示室」を探索するのは大好きです。

この建築倉庫が凄いのは、本当の収蔵庫を開放しているところです。首都圏にいくつも倉庫を持って美術専門倉庫、ワインセラー、メディア専門倉庫や通常の倉庫を運営している寺田倉庫という会社が保管している建築模型の倉庫を開放しているのです。
日本には世界的に評価の高い建築家や建築事務所が多々あります。
彼らがデザインの初期のスタディー用に製作した模型から、最終的な建築模型まで幅広い種類の模型を収蔵・公開する日本で唯一の建築模型の博物館なのです。
