A Science centre that focused on the scientist rather than science itself: Miraikan / 科学ではなく、科学者に焦点を当てた科学館：日本科学未来館

This science centre was planed to focus on the leading edge science or its application rather than pure scientific phenomenon like ordinary science centres are exhibiting.

They also wanted to make science and technologies as a ‘culture’ that passed onto generations in society.  The concept was build the exhibit from scientist viewpoint and provide resonance with reality to the visitors.

Therefore, they decided to focus on the ‘person’, not the ‘object’.

This is the example of hearing opinion from leading scientists ‘ in person’   regarding to the need of International Space Station.

Giving science a human face is a good idea for reaching general public, especially younger generations.

この科学館は純粋科学を扱う通常の科学館とは違い、科学の最先端やその応用について展示する施設です。

計画時から、科学技術を文化のように社会に継承されてゆくことを目指していました。そのため科学技術者の視点から、リアリテーに共鳴する展示を標榜しています。展示は「もの」ではなく、「ヒト」に焦点を当てて計画されました。

この展示は、国際宇宙ステーションの必要性について、直接科学者「個人」から意見を聞くことができる展示です。

一般の来館者はもちろん、特に子ども達にとって「顔の見える科学」は、良いアプローチですね。
