City of Kawagoe in Saitama locates north
west of Tokyo, just half an hour by train from Ikebukuro. The city had been developed as a riverboat
logistic centre for shipping goods to central Edo during Edo era.
In 1893, after Meiji civilization, there
was a great fire destroyed most of the city’s commercial area. When people rebuild their homes and shops,
they had chosen to build their building as same as fire proofed storehouse, ‘Kurazukuri’ and. street scene of Kawagoe
became unique by row of Kurazukuri
style shops and houses.
On the pedestrian deck in front of the
Kawagoe station, this Kurazukuri
motif is everywhere, telephone booth, information panel, and wrought iron
handrail ornaments, etc

東京の北西部にある川越市は、池袋から電車で３０分ほどの距離です。江戸時代には、河川を使って江戸に物資を送る水上運輸の中心地として栄えました。
明治２３年に市内の中心地を焼く大火があり、家や店舗は耐火性の高い蔵造りの建物で再建され、蔵造りの建物が並ぶ独特の街並みが生まれました。
川越駅前の歩行者デッキには、この蔵造りのモチーフが、電話ブース、案内サイン、デッキの鉄製手摺りの飾り部分など、いた
