How to turn the heavy Festival Float. : Kawagoe Matsuri Kaikan / 山車の向きの変え方: 川越まつり会館

Big and tall festival Floats

This corner display is showing three important tools for making the Festival Float turn which has rigid wooden axle.  Some Float’s equip steering front wheels, however, some only have rigid front and rear wheels. 

The neighborhood communities kept the Floats for decades or sometimes centuries and routing them on the neighbors’ streets at once a year  Kawagoe Festival.

For those don’t have steering front wheels, the community members use these three tools, rope, big bar and jack, to turn the Float when they clear the street corner.

Too bad, it doesn’t look like a hands on exhibit.

このコーナー展示は、固定車軸の山車向きを変える時に必要な道具を展示しています。山車の中には方向を変えられる前輪を持ったものもありますが、前後輪とも固定車軸のものもあります。

町内会で何十年、時には何百年も前の山車を保存していて、年に一度の川越祭りに町内の路上を引き回します。

前輪が操舵式に無っていない山車の町内の人たちは、これら、ロープ、大バール、ジャッキの3種の道具を通りの角を曲がる時に使います。

残念ながら、体験展示では無いようです。
