Products in hard time: Sony Corporate Museum / 苦しい時代の製品：ソニー歴史資料館

　

This wooden rice cooker was developed in 1945, right after the WII, when almost anything was lacking. They installed aluminum electrode inside a wooden rice container but lacking a heat adjuster.  Since it was extremely hard to control the temperature, heating time and amount of water, this rice cooker could hardly produced properly cooked rice. The rice cooker project was failed and had never made to the public. 

On the other hand, the electric cushion displayed next to the rice cooker was a fast selling product they put on the market in 1946.  Simply sandwiched a grid shaped nichrome wire between paper and fabrics.  Same as the rice cooker, the device also lacked the head adjuster; the user must repeat switching on/off to adjust desired temperature.

この木製炊飯器は、物資が何も無い第2次世界大戦後すぐの1945年に開発されました。アルミの電極を木の桶に取り付けただけで、温度調節機能は有りませんでした。温度調節、加熱時間や水の量等を調節するのが難しかったため、ご飯をちゃんと炊く事が出来無かったようです。結局、炊飯器のプロジェクトは成功せず、市場に製品が出回る事は有りませんでした。

炊飯器の隣に展示されている、1946年に発売された電熱座布団は大成功でした。格子状に組んだニクロム線を、美濃市紙や布の間に挟んだだけの簡単な作りでした。炊飯器と同じく、温度調節機能は無かったので、利用者は頻繁に電源を入/切して温度を調整する必要が有りました。
