This museum is kind of a Theme Park based on a manga character, Anpanman who is I hugely popular among children under 6 years old. Interestingly they quickly loose there interesting when they started elementary school.

The picture shows one of the playground equipment like exhibit the kid visitors enjoy light physical activities, climbing up & down.  There are a couple of peeking holes on the tree trunk inviting these kids to look in…Voilà!  Many friends are waiting for you!

Hello folks!

この博物館は６歳以下の子どもに絶大な人気を誇るマンガのヒーロー、アンパンマンのテーマパークのような施設です。不思議な事に、小学校に入る頃の年齢になると急に興味を失ってしまうようです。

写真は公園遊具のように登ったり降りたり、体を使って楽しむ展示です。木の幹の所には穴が二つ程開けられ、子ども達が覗けるようになっていて…わぁ！

中にはたくさんのアンパンマンの友達が待っていました！

In the hands on exhibit room in the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum, they use attractive images for wall graphics which become the back drop for the hands on exhibits.

There are no information on what they are, but I suppose since there are many staff people around in the room helping visitor’s experience, one could ask them if he/she wants to.

スミソニアン航空宇宙博物館のハンズオン展示室内のハンズオン展示の背景となる壁面のグラフィックはなかなか魅力的な題材を選んでします。

解説的なものは何も有りませんが、この部屋にはたくさんのスタッフが来館者の展示体験をサポートしていますので、質問すれば教えてもらえるのでしょう。

Hands-on exhibit instilments : SCMAGLEV and Railway Park / ハンズオン展示装置：リニア・鉄道館

This exhibit is describing how the exchange of continuous welded rail called ‘long rail’ takes place.  Long rail is developed for Shinkansen, bullet train, and it is 200m in length and welded on spot usually 2 to 3 Km long for improving the ride comfort, reducing the noises and cost of the maintenance. 

They developed unique method how to exchange the long and heavy type of rail.

This exhibit is simulating a technology the railroad industries developed.  The rail is made from molded rubber, flexible enough to demonstrate changing old (brown) and  new (silver) rails.

この展示はロングレールの交換を説明するものです。ロングレールは乗り心地の向上や騒音、メンテ費の軽減がはかる事ができるとして新幹線の為に開発され、200mのレールを現場で溶接しながら通常２−3Kmの長さにしていきます。

これはロングレールの交換方法を体験できる展示装置です。レールは柔らかいゴムで作られているので、新（銀色）旧（茶色）のレール交換を疑似体験できます。

よくできた展示ですね！

This is a hands on exhibit for lift theory of plane in the air.  This visitor learns forces of flight dew to the air resistance by moving around the cut out plane.

Interesting thing is, they mentioned about “streamline” in their graphic panel which famous in the outcome of the design movement in 30’S.  Yes, Streamline,  the America’s legendary designer Raymond Loewy’s stuff.

これは空中で飛行機にかかる揚力のしくみを体験するハンズオン展示です。来館者は飛行機の切り出し模型を動かしながら、空気抵抗の影響で飛行機が受ける力について学びます。

面白いのは,解説パネルの中で1930年代に流行った「流線型」デザインについて紹介している点です。流線型と言えば、アメリカの伝説の工業デザイナー、レイモンド・ローウィーが有名ですね。
