Art in Public Space: Saitama Shintosin1 / 公共の場のアート：さいたま新都心１

This globe like bronze sculpture is unique in the way it had been created.  The art work wasn’t created any single artist, but organized by a group of five artists who supported 280 pupils live in eight regions among Tokyo metropolitan area to create clay sculptures and combined all in globe shape.

The process sounds very experimental but somehow make sense for creating a public art which part of purpose is required to take root in the community.

この地球のような形をした彫刻は、変わった経緯で制作されたものです。作品は一人の作家によって創られたものではなく、５名の作家グループが働きかけ、首都圏８地域の小学生280名に粘土で創ってもらった作品を統合させたものなのです。

この制作手法はかなり実験的なものだとは思いますが、地域に根付くことも目的の一つとなる公共アートの制作手法としては、にかなっているのかもしれません。
