It is the bike renting system run by Koto-ku jurisdiction in Tokyo.

The rental service is available at 21 stations through out popular locations in Koto-ku, Toyosu, Shinonome, Ariake and Daiba.  The stations were all operated automatically, charged by hours, issues day pass or month pass, payable by credit, pre-paid IC card or pre registered cel-phone.

The sign is great, easy to understand how to use this wonderful local transportation system and holds free brochure with detailed information and map.

This system is developed by the cel-phone company, DoCoMo, and planning to expand the service into other cities, currently available at Yokohama and Sendai so far.

江東区内の豊洲、東雲、有明、台場等２１カ所で利用できます。

利用は全てセルフサービスで、時間単位、一日単位、一ヶ月単位での利用が出来、クレジットカードやスイカ等プリペイドカードで支払いが出来ます。

案内サインは良く出来ていて、この便利な地域交通システムの利用方法が良くわかり、地図や詳細情報の載ったリーフレットも用意されています。

このサービスは携帯電話会社ドコモが開発し、現在横浜と仙台でも運用されており、今後サービスを拡げて行く計画です。

Showing the changes over decades: SCMAGLEV and Railway Park / リニア・鉄道館

This projected map indicates the development of Japanese railway over the history for past 140+ years.  Unlike similar interactive map installed in the “American on the Move” exhibit at the National Museum of American History in Washington D.C., this is not an interactive map but an automated programed projection. 

Still basically telling same thing, the growth of the railway over the time.

この投影式地図は、日本の過去140位の鉄道の歴史の展示です。ワシントンDCにある国立アメリカ歴史博物館ではインタラクティブの地図で見せていますが、ここの展示ではプログラム化された映像を自動投影する仕組みとなっています。両方とも基本的には歴史を通した交通の発達を見せる物です。

Airline network in 1950

This touch screen monitor shows development of four different transportations over the decades in US, roadway, waterway, railway and airway.  When　the visitor moves the slider in the bottom, the red line network on the map increased that indicates the development of the network over the years.  Also, the visitor could compare the development or decline of different transportation network, airline V.S. railway for instance.

このタッチスクリーンモニターは米国の４つの交通機関（道路、航路、鉄路、空路）の長年の発展の様子を比較して見せている。来館者が下部に有るスライダーを動かすと、地図上の赤い線のネットワークが時代によって伸びて行く様子が見られる。また、例えば鉄路と空路など、各交通機関の発展や衰退の様子を比較する事が出来る。

Family life in Jomon period

Replica human bone & dog bone buried side by side

There were excavation site of the ancient village remains dulling Jomon period in Fujimi, Saitama.

History of this village goes back from 5,000 to 30,000 years, house marks and shell mounds have been unearthed.

The exhibit is the diorama like re-created excavation site and family life back then.

Their prime findings were the human and dog bones lie under the sell mound.  Since Kanto plain had been covered with the alkaline volcanic ash by Mount Fuji eruptions over the time, Loamy layer of the Kanto district, usually the bones buried under this soil for a long time of period, ended up completely melted and disappear into the soil.  That’s why no other human bones were found around Kanto area.

Because of the large volume of shells around the skeletons, the skeletons had been able to avoid contacting the alkaline soil and eventually saved from melting away.

The exhibit shows the re-created excavation site where human and dog bones were unearthed, as well as the life of the people in that era.

The friendly volunteer guides are available on the weekend and holidays, handing out some 7,000 to 5,000 years old shells as a souvenir for visitors.

Original skull

埼玉県の富士見市には縄文期の集落が発掘された場所がある。発掘された貝塚や集落の跡の歴史は、３万年前から５千年前にまで遡ることができる。

展示は発掘現場の再現や、当時の家族の暮らしを再現したジオラマ様式となっている。

Replica shell mound 

発掘での一番での発見は、貝塚の下から発見された人骨と犬の骨であった。関東一円は幾度もの富士山の噴火で形成されたアルカリ性の関東ローム層によって覆われており、骨格が埋まっている場合、通常この土の中に長く埋まっているとアルカリの影響で骨は溶け、土に吸収され消えてしまう事となる。

その為、関東地方の他の場所では人骨は発掘されていない。

貝塚の下で貝殻に囲まれていたおかげで、骨格はアルカリ性の土に触れずに済み、溶解せずに残る事になった。展示では人骨や犬の骨格が発掘された様子の再現とともに、当時の人々の暮らしに様子を再現している。
