Dissolved pocket watch

Seiko, a well known Japanese watch maker was established in 1881.  After their initial success, the great Kanto earthquake hit Tokyo in 1923 and completely destroyed their shop in down town Tokyo, Ginza.  The entire block was under inferno and the store went up in frames, so as all clock and watches for sale as well as 1,500 pocket watches they kept for repair, entrusted from their customers.  The founder, Kintaro Hattori,  decided to give back a brand new pocket watches for all 1,500 customers.
His bold action impressed so many people back them and made the solid reputation for their customer treatment.

時計メーカーで有名なセイコーは、1881年創業しました。当初、事業は順調に進んでましたが、1923年に関東大震災に見舞われ銀座一帯とともに店は焼け落ちてしまい、修理の為に預かっていた1,500もの懐中時計も焼失してしまいました。創業者の服部金太郎は、時計を預けていた1,500名の顧客全てに新品の懐中時計を渡す事にしました。
彼のお客様に対する責任感が評判となり、これをきっかけにセイコーの名前が不動となりました。

セイコーの歴史展示は、この熱で溶着した懐中時計がシンボルとして展示されています。
