Counter opinion: Glenbow Museum / 反対意見：グレンボー博物館

The ‘Mavericks: An Incorrigible History of Alberta’ is not only looking the history of Alberta from 48 individual people’s views but also provide the view from the fist nation people in same time. We have seen a lot of museums informing the history from one side, however, in the Glenbow Museum, there are the graphic panels describing how the first nations saw the particular event.

It is an unique and fare way to show the history.

「孤高：アルバータの手に負えない歴史」展示は48名の個性的な人たちの視点でアルバータ州の歴史を辿るだけではなく、先住民の人たちからの視点も同時に紹介しています。多くの博物館の歴史は片側からの解釈で解説されているものですが、グレンボー博物館の展示では、先住民の人たちが、当時どのように感じていたのかを解説したグラフィックオアネルがけいじされています。

歴史を扱うには公正でユニークな展示ですね。

The ‘Mavericks: An Incorrigible History of Alberta’ guides you the history of Alberta in unconventional way, which focusing on the stories of 48 mavericks – adventurous, hard-working and spirited men and women. Unlike ordinary way to trace the history anonymously, their personalized approach makes visitor more relates to the story and stimulates much interest.  Most importantly, it is fun to meet those attractive 48 maverick people!

「孤高：アルバータの手に負えない歴史」展示は冒険家や働き者で意志の強い男女48名の孤高の人物の視点という、普通とは違うアプローチで来館者にアルバータ州の歴史を紹介しています。客観的に歴史を解説する通常の展示と違い個人的な視点から歴史を伝える事で、物語との繋がりを来館者が感じたり、より興味を持ったりする事が出来ます。

何と言っても、この48名の魅力的な個性溢れる人たちに会えるのは、楽しい経験です。

Masked figure over looking the theatre

The masked figure representing a dancer dressed as a mythical creature on the Kawagoe Festival’s float which displayed in the presentation theatre, over looking the theatre floor from second floor level.

The visitor would walk up to second level and able to come around behind this figure after the presentation movie is over. 

The figure has other use too; function as a movie viewer looking from back of the head.

There are handles and white dish shape mask with two holes located on the back of figure.  To start the movie, push the start button on the handle while you peek the holes and you have the choice of either day time or night time festival activities to play.

このお面を被った人形は川越まつりの山車の上で踊っている人を模していて、解説シアター空間を2階の高さから見下ろしています。解説映像が終わると来館者は２階部分に上り、この人形の後ろに回り込む事が出来ます。

この人形のもう一つの機能は、背面が映像装置になっている事です。

背面にはハンドルと覗き穴があり、ハンドルのスイッチで昼か夜の映像を選んでまつりの様子を楽しむ事が出来ます。

The ‘Warriors
- Global Journey Through Five Centuries’ exhibit at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary uses war scene diorama for showing the couple of historical battles, ‘Battle of Crecy’ for instance.  The figure they used is actually the cut out of figures printed on paper; not three-dimensional figures often used for the diorama but still perfectly serve the purpose, simple and smart technique!

カルガリー市のグレンボー博物館の「戦士—５世紀を通して世界を巡る」展では、歴史的に名高い「クレーシーの戦い」等の戦闘シーンをジオラマで解説しているものが２点程あります。

ジオラマで使われている人形は、兵隊を印刷した紙を切抜いたもので、通常のジオラマに使う立体の人形ではありませんが、全くにになりません。

簡単で賢い手法ですね。

Yes, the funny looking bike that you ride with your belly up position, Recumbent.  Usually this type of bike is assembled with specially designed frame which no resemblance of the ordinary bicycle. However, this Recumbent bicycle is converted from ordinary bicycle with special kit, move pedals and rear mechanism in up front….Interesting

上向きで載る変な格好の自転車、リカベントです。リカベントは普通の自転車とは似ても似つかない、特別なフレームで作られています。しかし、この自転車は通常の自転車を特別なキットによって、ペダルやリヤメカを前部に移設してリカベントに改造されたものです。面白いですね。
